Freshman year began in 2014, and so did my journalism career. Throughout high school, I have been a writer, editor, social media manager, reporter, and anchor for The Bigfork Norse Code, the Bigfork High School journalism program. Journalism has become one of my greatest passions because through it, voices are heard, news is reported, stories are understood, and opinions are formed. Journalism allows me the chance to connect my love for writing with a platform to connect with, entertain, and educate a large number of readers.
In the future, I aspire to be a political or sports journalist. I believe that political journalism is more important now than ever before in the history of America due to the progressive and diverse society we are living in today. On the other hand, sports will forever be a passion of mine after numerous seasons in volleyball, swim, and tennis. Journalism, no matter the platform, has an undeniable impact on the society in which we live. Along with many other factors, such as government and climate change, journalism has the power to shape the future of our world. Within the words I write, I find the greatest leadership achieved. Since the very first Griz game my dad took me to, I have wanted to become a part of Griz Nation, and because of the impact of my high school journalism class, I plan to attend the University of Montana Journalism School in the fall as a part of the Davidson Honors College. Inside that BHS journalism classroom, I see greatness in the leadership I urge through words of my own. I refuse to silence my voice in a society where my opinions have the power to inflict change, and I will bring that same mindset to the University of Montana in the fall of 2019. I will be forever thankful to The Norse Code for the endless responsibilities over the past four years and rewards that followed, but most of all, I am thankful for journalism; through it I found my voice. |
